Around 1912 Gyrth had to study virtually every day at the Acadamie Julian , the disciplines of life drawing which he found rather boring. This led to a substantial volume of nude studies of Parisian models. Years later when living in a riverside apartment at Topsham , Devon with his new , much younger wife Ronagh words were exchanged between the newly-weds regarding the drawings which led to Gyrth throwing the entire collection of nudes sketches from Paris into the local tidal river . He was even more annoyed later to find his sketches being fished out of the river by local villagers , the tide having turned and washed them all back onto the shore !
